Difference between
Osmosis and diffusion
Osmosis.
1- It take place in the presence of a
semipermeable membrane.
Diffusion.
1- It occurs directly and doesn't require any semipermeable membrane.
Osmosis.
2- solvent molecules move from a solution of lower concentrations to that of higher concentration.
Diffusion.
2- Both the molecule of solute and solvent move from higher concentration to lower one.
Osmosis.
3- It is restricted to solutions only .
Diffusion.
3- It is applicable to both gases and liquids.
Osmosis.
4- Osmosis cause when an external pressure is applied .
Diffusion.
4- It can not be stopped by applying external pressure.
